Welcome!
Acorn School is conveniently located 2 km west of highway 404 on Elgin Mills Road East. Our school is adjacent to a 9-acre park, featuring several kilometers of walking-trails and mature trees. We welcome over 35 children ages 18 mths to 6 years old and their families from surrounding communities. We offer half and full day programs including a registered kindergarten program that meets and exceeds the Ontario Kindergarten Curriculum. Children benefit from small classroom sizes in a group setting with two qualified teachers. Our environment is designed to support connections between the school, community, and the family. The layout of the school consists of classrooms, art studio, gardens, playgrounds, and kitchen. Each of these areas is filled with collections of natural materials, project work, and collected resources.
The work of the school has evolved through our learning from the educators of Reggio Emilia, Italy and educators across the country who is inspired by the world-renowned Reggio Emilia Approach to Early Childhood Education. Teachers belong to the Ontario Reggio Association, North American Reggio Education Association, College of Early Childhood Educators, Association for Early Childhood Educators Ontario, a network of educators, faculty, and parents.
Our values are based on a strong image of the child as curious, competent, and capable of constructing knowledge.
Our mission is to guide creative, competent, capable, joyful inquirers who use innovative thinking to build a world in which they can understand how it works.
Acorn school offers a unique educational approach that celebrates intellectual risk-taking, collaboration, authenticity and empathy, and these qualities are paired with other educational goals and measures for academic achievement. We are committed to supporting a sense of wonder, play, and curiosity in our classrooms.
